The years spent in middle and high school are some of the most challenging and yet formative years in ones life. Here at LifeYouth, our goal is to stand with students and support them as they discover who they are in Christ and explore who God is to them. We are passionate about teaching teenagers about Jesus through worship, impactful messages, fun break-out groups, and crazy games to raise modern disciples. We believe this generation is not the church of tomorrow, but the church of today!

Pastor Derick VanAken
Derick VanAken is the Lead Youth Pastor at Community Life Church in Port Charlotte, FL.
Derick VanAken has been apart of Community Life Church since 2009 when he and his family decided to call this place home. It was here he met his wonderful wife, Hannah, when she and her family came to the church, and now have three adorable little boys, Karter, Jensen, and Rowan. With a love of people and a heart for serving God, Derick has assisted in multiple ministries over the years but has always felt a particular connection to teenagers. Seeing his great passion for working with teenagers and everything that comes with it, he was brought on as our lead youth pastor. Junior high and high school are pivotal times in children’s lives and he believes showing them the love of Jesus Christ and laying a biblical, faith based foundation is so important. It is Derick’s goal to develop and nurture a true, meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ in our teens, to bring change to our community, and to truly be the difference.
